invalidating its Unistrokes patent in a suit against palmOne. This move is only the latest chapter in a long and protracted court case that has been appealed several times by both Xerox and palmOne. Xerox to appeal, Graffiti squabble continuesBy Larry Garfield, Wednesday 26 May 2004
Xerox has announced its intention to appeal this week's US federal court ruling, invalidating its Unistrokes patent in a suit against palmOne. This move is only the latest chapter in a long and protracted court case that has been appealed several times by both Xerox and palmOne. On Monday, the federal judge in the case ruled that the Xerox patent was invalid because "prior art references anticipate and render obvious the claim". That ruling came as the result of a previous appeal by palmOne after the court ruled that the Palm's Graffiti handwriting system did infringe on the Xerox patent as written.
