PalmSource and Research In Motion (RIM) have announced that they have cemented their relationship, begun last December, and work is under way to bring RIM's push-based functionality to Palm OS. RIM's architecture is based upon tying a handheld client application to a push server behind a company firewall that can route email to the handheld on a push basis, provide global address lists, and support a centralized IT support and policy system. Although not yet completed, the plan is to deliver a new Palm OS Mail Client with full support for RIM's Blackberry Connect servers to licensees in the second half of 2004. Pricing information was not available, but it is likely to depend on the licensee.
