SDIO accessories galore from PretecBy Jørgen Sundgot, Monday 3 May 2004
Pretec has announced seven new Secure Digital (SD) I/O cards for Pocket PC and Palm OS handhelds, including a SD WLAN (802.11b), SD Bluetooth, SD GPS, SD 56 Kbps Modem, SD Camera (VGA and 1.3 mega-pixel), and SD Barcode Scanner. Pricing for the cards ranges from $79 USD to $199 USD, and Pretec said five of its new cards will be offered to retail market by within the second quarter of 2004, while the VGA SD Camera will be only available for OEM customers.

The comprehensive line of products also introduces the company's proprietary and patented "Whanto" technology, demonstrated at CES 2004 in Las Vegas. Whanto allows for interchangeability between four different interfaces - Compact Flash, Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick and USB, allowing users to use one module with multiple expansion slots. Shipped with an SD interfacing module, Pretec SD GPS and SD Barcode Scanner cards will be expandable to CF, MS, and USB interfaces simply by changing to another optional interfacing module.
