GoForce 3000 and 4000 mobile GPUs are unveiled as nVidia continues its efforts in the mobile space following last year's acquisition of mobile graphics specialist MediaQ.
nVidia has announced its new GoForce 3000 and 4000 media processors, which are to offer graphics capabilities far beyond the current crop of chips used to power the displays of advanced mobile devices. Envisioning a future where mobile phones have evolved into complete multimedia devices, nVidia says its new chips will deliver high-resolution digital photography, full-motion video and interactive games - and longer battery life to boot.
The GoForce 3000 offers a host of advanced features for mobile phones, including support for two megapixel image capture, high-quality video playback, accelerated graphics for gaming, and nVidia's nPower technology which the chip maker claims enables all these multimedia features - whilst still optimizing performance and minimizing impact on battery life.
Also featuring 8x digital zoom, the GoForce 3000 will allow the printing of photos with reasonable quality in the standard 5" x 7" size, as well as dedicated hardware filters enabling MPEG4 decoding.
The GoForce 4000 is based on the same architecture as the GoForce 3000, however boasts slightly improved specifications such as support for three megapixel image capture and video capture and playback at 30 frames per second, along with accelerated graphics for gaming, video conferencing, and, again, nVidia's nPower technology.
High-resolution camera support as found in the GoForce 4000 will enable users to print photos with reasonable quality at standar 8" x 10" size, while the same 8x digital zoom and MPEG4 decoding abilities as found in the 3000 series are also present in the 4000. Additionally, the 4000 series offers hardware filters for the H.263 codec, which is frequently used in video conferencing solutions.
