NVIDIA processors in Motorola 3G phonesBy Anthony Newman, Tuesday 23 March 2004
NVIDIA today announced that Motorola has chosen the company's GoForce 4000 processor for its new 3G mobile phones. The NVIDIA processor solution will deliver imaging and video processing options for select Motorola 3G phones, as well as a development environment and support for rapidly building feature-rich multimedia phones and video-communicators.

Widespread deployment of 3G this year will allow millions of consumers to experience high-speed wireless data through handsets with integrated high-resolution still and video cameras, MP3 and full motion video players, high resolution color displays, downloadable applications and games, and new location-based services. 3G is being rapidly adopted worldwide with 74 operators in 37 countries offering a broad range devices.

The NVIDIA GoForce 4000 features up to 3MP camera support with real time capture, storage, and the ability to view multiple digital images. By supporting 8x digital zoom and removable storage to manage digital assets, these new media processors allow handset manufacturers to incorporate a complete digital feature-set into their products. The GoForce processors also allow for simultaneous encode and decode that can be used for applications like video conferencing and multiple video filters. All of these features were designed with digital gamers and entertainment enthusiast in mind, and with the ability to do so using as little as one tenth of the power of traditional hardware codecs.
