Preview: ASUS MyPal A730By Jørgen Sundgot, Sunday 21 March 2004
First out of the block with Intel's new 520 MHz processor, ASUS' new MyPal A730 is a veritable powerhouse with VGA resolution: Jørgen Sundgot has spent time with it at CeBIT.

Having transgressed from the position of a relatively unknown dark horse to quite a force within the Windows Mobile community in a short period of time, ASUS is now wowing visitors to the CeBIT fair in Hannover with the latest addition to its line-up of Pocket PCs: the MyPal A730, a powerhouse which offers up specifications no other product on the market can match at its time of announcement.

In a package considerably smaller than Toshiba's Pocket PC e805, which may very well be the A730's closest competitor, ASUS has managed to include a next-generation Intel XScale processor running at a whopping 520 MHz, 128 MB of RAM, dual CompactFlash Type II expansion slots and an SDIO capable SD/MMC Card expansion slot.

As if this wasn't enough, the display of the A730 is of the 18-bit, 3.7" variety, and although the prototypes on display did exhibit some artifacts at VGA resolution, their displays were both bright and crisp. Furthermore, the A730 is also equipped with a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, a first for Pocket PCs, and which delivers excellent results - however the white balance could need some tweaking.

The ASUS MyPal A730 is expected to go on sale in Asian markets in the second half of 2004, however no information concerning its expected pricing and availability in other markets was available.
