Panasonic launch X300, A100-seriesBy Anthony Newman, Friday 19 March 2004
X300 features pop-up screen and integrated VGA digital camera for stills and movies; A100-series focus on size, with basic features.

Panasonic have introduced the X300 mobile phone to the European market. Designed with a one-push pop-up screen, the tri-band phone also features a 65K colour screen, video record and playback capability, polyphonic ring tones, Multimedia Messaging (MMS) and built-in camera.

Interesting pop-up screen debuts
With its one-push, pop-up screen, the X300 aims to make taking pictures and shooting video clips simple. The built-in VGA camera has a self-timer function on this new device. Photos or videos can then be can played back on the pop-up 65k colour display.

The tri-band GSM unit supports Class 8 GPRS and MMS, with a WAP 2.0 browser included. It also features 20 40-polyphonic ring tones, a calendar, calculator, games and wallpaper downloads, with 2 games preloaded. The X300 will be available from Autumn 2004.

Panasonic have also introduced the A100 series, comprising three models: A100, A101 and A102. Each places the emphasis on tiny size, smaller than a credit card (although thicker!) and aimed at both male and female markets. The range shares a number of basic features, including tri-band GSM, 250-name phonebook storage, 16-tone polyphonic ringtones, melody composer, vibration alert, 2 built-in games, EMS and utilities such as a calculator and scheduler.

The A100 is 'simple' and comes in red, blue or black, while the A101 takes a sporty design. The A102 claims a more elegant style. The entire range will be available from Summer 2004.
