Samsung launch SGH-P730, SPH-V4400, SCH-V500By Anthony Newman, Wednesday 17 March 2004
Offering video recording and zoom along with twist-and-flip design, SGH-P730 handset includes 64 MB RAM and MMC slot; SPH-V4400 CDMA phone includes 2 MP camera with flash; SGH-V500 includes 1.3 MP unit.

Samsung's presence at CeBIT includes their SGH-P730 mobile phone, a handset featuring an innovative twist-and-flip design as seen in the LG 7100 handset. Samsung's offering includes a heavy imaging focus, including QVGA-resolution video recording from the 1 megapixel camera, complete with digital zoom, pause controls and a movable camera, along with seven quality choices for still recording.

Rotating screens are a theme in Samsung's announcements: the V4400
The handset features 64 MB of internal memory, and includes an RS MMC slot for expansion, with a maximum of 512 MB storage supported.

The SGH-P730 measures 45 x 94 x 24.5 mm and weighs a decent 123 g. In this package it boasts a 262k-colour TFT screen and 64-tone polyphonic ringtones. Samsung are to launch the SGH-P730 in Europe in Q3 2004, and have also stated that they will introduce a 2 MP cameraphone by the end of 2004.

Also on the bill is Samsung's SPH-V4400 CDMA handset, a CDMA2000 clamshell featuring the same twist-and-flip design along with a 2 MP camera and flash. The camera can record 2 hours of video, while the main screen is a 262k-colour TFT LCD.

The SPH-V4400 also includes 64-tone polyphonic ringtones and an embedded MP3 player, contained in a body weighing 98 g and measuring 92 x 44 x 24 mm.

Finally, Samsung have launched another handset dubbed the SCH-V500. It too is a CDMA2000 phone and uses the swivelling TFT display, which is a 2.2-inch widescreen running at QVGA resolution with a 262k colour-depth. The camera in this device is 1.3 MP with flash, and it is capable of 180-degree rotation. This unit also features a 4-colour OLED external display.

The SCH-V500 features 64-tone polyphonic ringtones and MP3 player, as with the V4400, and measures 98.3 x 50 x 26 mm with a slightly heavier 110 g weight.
