The handsets claim a design inspired by high-performance luxury cars, and are created from a range of materials not usually found in mobile phones. As well as hand-stitched leather in black or brown, the phones also feature stainless steel, ceramics, sapphire crystal and the most exciting of all: Liquidmetal alloy, specially developed for the handsets. Normally found in aerospace applications, Liquidmetals offer high durability and scratch-resistance.
The handsets also feature stainless steel keys set on jewelled bearings, which the company claim give a unique tactile feedback.
Every Vertu phone comes with a dedicated hardware button for connection to the Vertu Concierge service, which provides 24-7-365 telephone support in 170 countries to supply users with information and assistance.
Vertu handsets are available from dedicated stores in Paris and Singapore as well as fine department stores such as London's Harrods. The Ascent has a recommended retail price of 2,450 GBP, with an optional holster available for a further 200 GBP.
