eZiTap from Zi: eZi does itBy Jørgen Sundgot, Friday 13 February 2004
Nouveau texting solution from multilingual Zi enables users to compose texts in multiple languages simultaneously.

Zi, whose technology lies at the heart of more than 70 million mobile phones around the world, will be unveiling the world's first dual language text entry capability and other predictive text breakthroughs at this month's 3GSM World Congress. It will also have on hand the first eZiTap-enabled physical handsets for demonstration, a new text input system from Zi.

"The unique dual language text entry capability is essential for today's European multilingual community," said Terry Hughes, UK-based European Director of Sales and Business Development for Zi Corporation. "For mobile users who find conventional predictive text too complex to use but would benefit from regular words being prompted to them on screen as they compose a message, eZiTap is the solution," added Hughes.

Dual Language allows the user to compose a message in a combination of two languages using simultaneous text entry and prediction. For example, it allows users to text input in two languages without the need to change menus. A user can compose a message in Spanish, then compose the next message in English, or even compose a single message with a mixture of languages. This capability builds on the success of Zi's predictive text applications eZiText and eZiTap to address the diversity of user preferences for personalised messaging capabilities.

eZiTap is complementary to the generic multi-tap entry system all users are familiar with. It is designed to make predictive texting in many languages much more simple to use for the ever-growing global market demand for SMS communication and for new smart phone applications, such as Calendar, Contacts, Notes, E-mail, mobile Internet browsing, and more.
