High-end V80, V600 launched by MotorolaBy Anthony Newman, Friday 6 February 2004
Innovative V80 swivel-phone says 'hello moto', while V600 sees special Black edition. Also: new HS820 Bluetooth headset comes to market.

Motorola follow up their first announcements with a more exclusive set of products, starting with the V80, successor to the unique V70. The black V80 follows its predecessor with a cover that rotates around a central bezel bearing the screen, only this time the phone also contains a VGA digital camera for landscape photo messaging, colour display, Bluetooth and internal aerial.

The 'revolutionary' V80
With the phone closed, the screen displays caller ID and can be used for playing games; at 90-degrees open, the phone enters photo mode, while when fully open it operates as a normal handset.

Other features include MP3 ringtones and Java games, all of which are illuminated by a range of flashing lights.

In a drive towards chic fashion, the next design up is a limited edition of the current Motorola flagship, the V600. Bearing all of its normal features, including quad-band GSM, VGA camera, MMS, Bluetooth, MP3 ringtones, polyphonics and video playback.

Finally, accessories weren't ignored during the announcements: a new Bluetooth headset was also unveiled, the HS820. With a design inspired by a surfboard, the headset can be worn on both ears, boasts a battery life of 3.5 hours talk-time and features Bluetooth 1.2

Each of these products is expected to be available in Q2 2004, although no pricing information was available at the time of going to press.

An additional hi-res picture of the Motorola V80 is available on the following page.
