MSN Direct's Smart Watches are shipping to retail partners as of CES, offering personalized information such as news and weather forecasts on the wrist.
Microsoft's Bill Gates has announced that Smart Watches are to be available for purchase imminently. The devices, manufactured by Fossil and Suunto, are designed for MSN Direct, and receive personalized information such as news and weather directly to the wearer's wrist.

The watches are part of Microsoft's SPOT initiative, which stands for Smart Personal Objects Technology. It centres around a subscription-based plan in which users pay for the personalized information that they wish to receive directly from the MSN Direct web site. The service offers common information for major North American locations and can also handle personal data such as MSN Messenger messages and Outlook calendar reminders.
The watches - four from Fossil and one from Suunto - themselves offer automatic time-zone adjustment and multiple watch faces, while also receiving information from a range of major content providers, including the Wall Street Journal, weather.com, CinemaSource, Encarta, ESPN, MSNBC and others.
The subscription is priced at either $9.95 USD per month or an annual payment of $59 USD, with further information available from the web site. Service is available only within select areas, and additional costs for the watch itself will apply.
