announcement regarding the availability of beta drivers for Symbian OS devices for its Infrared Wireless Keyboard comes news of open source drivers that support use of not only this, but also the Pocketop Infrared Keyboard with Symbian OS devices.

Developed by Chris Faherty for the Series 60 platform and ported to the UIQ platform by Johan Frank, the drivers enable use of the aforementioned keyboards with the Nokia 3650 and Sony Ericsson P800. The drivers do not appear to have been tested with other devices based on the Series 60 and UIQ platforms, however given the low-level nature of text input, chances are good no alterations are made in this area between different devices, increasing the odds of universal compatibility.

Pocketop also recently made available beta versions of drivers for Symbian OS devices based upon the Series 60 and UIQ platforms, however these can no longer be retrieved directly from the Pocketop web site as the manufacturer has removed its direct download feature.">

Symbian OS IR keyboard drivers proliferateBy Jørgen Sundgot, Monday 22 December 2003
Short on the heels of Think Outside's announcement regarding the availability of beta drivers for Symbian OS devices for its Infrared Wireless Keyboard comes news of open source drivers that support use of not only this, but also the Pocketop Infrared Keyboard with Symbian OS devices.
