NTT DoCoMo today announced that Italian mobile network operator Wind Telecomunicazioni has launched its i-mode service for the Italian market. Italy marks the eighth market for i-mode service, which is already available in Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Belgium, France, and Spain, adding another potential 10 million users from the third largest operator in Italy.
According to NTT DoCoMo, Wind Telecomunicazioni will offer approximately 200 i-mode sites at launch, most of which are Italian although some will be available in English. The operator will carry the N223i and N341i handsets - both manufactured by NEC - for initial customters, equipped with a dual browser capable of displaying both i-mode compatible HTML and WML 1.x content.
