Motorola unveils six new handsetsBy Jørgen Sundgot, Tuesday 18 November 2003
Features combined with affordability signify Motorola's launch of its new V150, C200, C250, C343, C450 and C550 handsets.

Motorola today introduced a series of new handsets on a global basis, ranging from the low-end V150 through the C200, C250, C343, C450 and all the way up to the high-end C550. Sporting colour screens, support for advanced messaging, integrated and downloadable games and personalization options, each new model offers a unique combination of features while attempting to compete on price.

The Motorola C250 features downloadable content from MTV
According to Motorola, the manufacturer has optimised the user-interface for the new Motorola handsets to increase ease of use and quick access for the most frequently used functions, including improvements in the messaging application and text input speeds.

The Motorola C550 leads the pack of new handsets with an integrated VGA quality camera, support for MMS, J2ME applications and customizable ringtones, and is expected to be available in Europe and Asia this year. This is followed by the Motorola C450, which includes photo-messaging functionality for silent conversations, as well as J2ME support and photo caller-ID; this model is currently available in Europe and is expected to be available in Asia (as the model C375) later this year. Both handsets offer screensavers, polyphonic ringtones and MotoMixer remixable ring tones.

The Motorola C343 is the only Americas model out of the six launched
Sporting a colour screen and downloadable content from MTV, the new Motorola C250 also boasts polyphonic speakers and the MotoMixer application for creating individual ringtones. In addition, there's also interchangeable front and back covers, along with downloadable themes, animated screensavers and wallpapers. The Motorola C250 is currently available in Asia and Europe.

Combining a colour screen, Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) and interchangeable covers, the Motorola C343 takes integrated features down a notch, yet still offers what Motorola has dubbed "musical ringtones", games and embedded and downloadable animated screensavers and wallpapers. The Motorola C343 is available now in North America and is expected to be available in Latin America early next year.

Pitched as a back-to-basics experience, the Motorola C200 offers barebones voice and messaging functionality, as well as embedded games, animated screensavers and downloadable ringtones. According to Motorola, the C200 will be available in Europe and Asia this year.

And lastly, the Motorola V150 mobile phone is an enhanced version of the popular Motorola V50, which was introduced in 1999. The new version features a colour screen in a silver clamshell handset, offers voice-dialing capability, enhanced messaging features and Internet access. The Motorola V150 is expected to be available in Europe and Asia this year.

Additional hi-res pictures of the Motorola V150, C200, C250, C343, C450 and C550 handsets are available on the following pages.
