It was announced recently that Motorola will incorporate the RealOne Player from RealNetworks in selected Motorola handsets, with an initial focus on Linux-based handsets for the mass market consumer audience. The mobile version of the RealOne Player, with support for 3GPP and 3GPP2 media formats, RealAudio and RealVideo, should be available in Motorola devices in the first half of 2004.
The companies will work with mobile operators to enable delivery of premium live and on-demand streaming audio and video services to mobile consumers throughout the globe. Also, through HelloMoto, Motorola will distribute RealNetworks’ RealOne Player for the desktop as well as the company’s content services, including: RealOne RHAPSODY, RealOne SuperPass and RealOne GamePass. HelloMoto allows consumers to download games, ringtones, applications and content.
Motorola will leverage the flexibility of RealNetworks’ Helix client source code to bring RealOne Player-enabled mobile handsets to market via the Helix Community. The Helix Community is a collaborative effort among RealNetworks, independent developers, and companies to extend the Helix DNA platform, the first open multi-format platform for digital media creation, delivery and playback.
