Motorola unveils V300 handsetBy Jørgen Sundgot, Monday 20 October 2003
Initially to be available exclusively from T-Mobile, Motorola has now launched the V300 handset featuring a colour display, integrated digital camera and more.

Motorola today introduced the Motorola V300 mobile phone, aimed at 'youthful consumers' and initially to be available exclusively within T-Mobile European markets. The new handset will include an integrated VGA camera with zoom, a colour screen capable of displaying up to 65,536 colours and MP3 ringtones, as well as a stylish new clamshell design.

Motorola says it targets youthful consumers with its new V300 model
The tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz Motorola V300 is to be introduced across T-Mobile networks in Europe, which offers presence in the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Austria and Hungary, and offers a number of new features previously notably absent from Motorola's typical line-up of handset features.

An integrated VGA camera with zoom is among the most notable features, which, coupled with an internal 16-bit colour screen capable of displaying up to 65,536 colours and support for MMS, brings Motorola fully up to par with its competitors with regard to built-in messaging and entertainment features. Also, the V300 features a picture phonebook which lets users attach a photo to each phonebook entry, as well as instant messaging and SMS.

For those who want to do more with their mobile than simply stay in touch, the V300 also comes with an embedded MotoMixer application, allowing owners to compose a unique ring tone to play on the mobile's polyphonic speakers. Alternatively, there's also the option of downloading an MP3 ringtone, although the 5 MB of internal memory would hardly invite users to attempt using full-length tunes for this purpose.

The V300 also features support for J2ME MIDP 2.0 and extra sensory features such as colours, lights, sound and vibration, and the ability to personalise the handset with wallpapers and screensavers.

Accessories compatible with the new handset will include an FM Stereo Radio Headset and MP3 Player, and for more serious use the V300 also includes organisational tools and voice memos, as is an external caller ID feature.

The Motorola V300 is expected to be available across Europe in the fourth quarter, the United States by the end of the year and in Latin America in early 2004.

An additional hi-res picture of the Motorola V300 is available on the following page.
