Intel, Sony team on mobile musicBy Anthony Newman, Friday 17 October 2003
Intel and Sony Music collaborate to bring music and entertainment to Intel-based mobile phones.

Intel and Sony Music today announced a partnership intended to enable users to access music, images, videos and other Sony Music content on Intel-based cellular phones and PDAs.

Together, the companies will optimize Sony Music Entertainment's mobile applications, services and content for mobile devices running the Intel Personal Internet Client Architecture (Intel PCA), providing users with PC-quality digital music and video on their cell phones. The two companies also plan to co-develop future applications and services for Intel-based phones, including applications that will enable consumers to use PC-based multimedia content on their cell phones.

Intel and Sony Music Entertainment will work with mobile phone makers and wireless carriers to make Sony Music's mobile applications and services available to Intel PCA-based phones on advanced wireless networks around the world. The Sony Music portfolio of mobile products and services enables wireless carriers to offer subscribers a variety of personalized services including the ability to download and experience images, ring tones, music videos and other music entertainment services.

The initial products from the collaboration are expected to be available through carriers and handset makers in 2004.
