Mobile phone operator Orange has finally announced the successor to the SPV E100 - and it might be just what everyone's been waiting for.
European carrier Orange have today unveiled their latest Microsoft Smartphone, the SPV E200. This is the device that has been rumoured for months, and speculatively branded the SPV2 or SPV C200.

As expected, the SPV E200 breaks new ground in the Microsoft Smartphone field by including a camera, which replaces the clip-on verion that shipped with the SPV and its E100 brother. The new camera reportedly can record video, too.
This will be the first Microsoft smartphone to feature Bluetooth, and will also be the first handset to market running the 2003 version of the Smartphone platform.
The E200 looks broadly identical to the E100 version of the SPV, with minor changes to button and speaker details, and of course the integrated camera on the rear side. Other technical specifications are also similar, with the new handset retaining the 132MHz processor of the original SPV, which should be adequate given the reported speed increases of the new operating system.
Although the only fundamental changes are the camera and Bluetooth, these two features may be what is required to make the SPV range attractive to the high-end consumer market, finally achieving parity with the equivalent features on Sony Ericsson's P800 and Nokia's 3650.
The SPV E200 is due to be available from Orange during November 2003. It will be available from Orange in the UK, France, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium. No pricing was available at the time of writing, although it is expected that on a contract the handset will be available in the sub-200 UKP category.
