A new application for smartphones such as the Nokia 7650, 3650 and 6600, turns these into portable lie detectors. The company behind it says it's for entertaiment purposes only.
As the amount of processing power available in mobile devices continues to increase, new - and rather unexpected - uses are frequently found for smartphones and wireless handhelds. The latest new curiosity is an application which turns devices based on Nokia's Series 60 platform into portable lie detectors.
From Agile Mobile, a company specializing in development of software for mobile devices, comes 'Agile Lie Detector', which acts as a real-time lie detector for owners of smartphones such as the Nokia 7650, 3650 and 6600.
Telling a lie that a person does not dare get caught at is stressful, and this form of stress can be detected in one's voice, explains the company's web site. Being able to measure the amount of stress certain questions or topics of discussion cause to a person is an effective method of indicating deceit.
Agile Lie Detector measures the amount of stress caused by lying in a person's voice and displays this information in a real-time graph on any Series 60 device. The solution may not be as stealthy as some would wish, however, as it requires a handsfree kit to be used to provide the visual indication of whether or not someone is lying.
Still, Agile Mobile admits that its software is not intended for covert use, but rather for entertainment purposes. The company also advises users to disclose to subjects that they are being submitted to a lie detector test prior to any testing - perhaps somewhat redundantly, as most subjects would likely be prone to curiosity if asked to wear a handsfree set while 'answering a few questions'.
