Nokia Game 2003 goes mobileBy Jørgen Sundgot, Tuesday 16 September 2003
This year's edition of Nokia's annual Nokia Game still places an emphasis on teamwork - but only Nokia 3650 and N-Gage owners will have access to the first part.

At its Totally Board event in Sevilla, Spain last week, Nokia announced that once again, the company will kick off its wildly popular Nokia Game across Europe. The 2003 edition, like previous Nokia Games, places an emphasis on teamwork, and will be played across 35 countries around the world in 10 languages. Yet, the first part of the game will only be available to owners of the Nokia 3650 smartphone or N-Gage gaming deck.

The heroine of Nokia Game 2003 is Flo - a virtual character created by Nokia
This year, the Nokia Game is split into two parts. The first part consists of a mobile online gaming experience either available for free download from the Nokia Game web site or on a special promotional game card included in the Europe and Africa sales packages of the Nokia N-Gage game deck starting on October 7, 2003 for a limited period of time.

Nokia Game on terminals includes three parts: the Flo Boarding game; chat with other players; as well as meet and interact with the avatar Flo, the virtual heroine of this year's story. Players will also be able to upload their high scores, download ghosts and compete against other players via Bluetooth or mobile networks. Likely to cause a stir among players, however, these features will only be available to owners of the Nokia 3650 smartphone and N-Gage gaming deck.

"For our fifth Nokia Game, we have created a truly unique and mobile online experience for players around the world. Last year, we set a new record with one million player registrations and we expect that the innovative new additions we've made this year will inspire even more people to play Nokia Game," said Pekka Rantala, Nokia's Vice President of Marketing Services.

The second part will take place for 10 days, starting on November 19, applies the more traditional combination of Internet, SMS, e-mail, chat and interactive voice response (IVR) calls to share information and provide clues and instructions to the players. To play, participants need to have access to the Internet, an e-mail address, and a mobile phone with the capacity to receive short messages. At the end of the game, the top 5 to 50 players in each country will each win a Nokia N-Gage game deck.

As with earlier Nokia Games, there is no participation fee to take part, nor an age limit to particpate - although minors need their guardian's permission to participate.
