A listing on the Orange France web site exposes details of the Orange SPV2, featuring Smartphone 2002 and long-anticipated built-in Bluetooth support.
Following speculation concerning its specifications in the enthusiast community, details of Orange's next branded smartphone now appear to have inadvertedly been posted on the Orange France web site. Revealing that yet another successor to the original Orange SPV is in the works, the listing for the Orange SPV2 gives away not only that it runs Smartphone 2002, but also that it boasts long-anticipated built-in Bluetooth.
Originally expected to run Smartphone 2003, or Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone as the platform is likely to be rebranded, the SPV2 will according to the information on the Orange France web site offer Bluetooth despite the lack of native support for this under Smartphone 2002. The advent of wireless PAN is however not all that is new in the SPV2, as it also boasts an integrated digital camera with VGA resolution rather than the clip-on camera solutions of past SPV models.
Sources indicate that the SPV2 will be based on Taiwanese manufacturer HTC's Voyager reference model, which is essentially an upgraded version of its Tanager reference model - used for the SPV E100. This is further substantiated by some of the specifications listed on the Orange France web site, as its weight and measurements - 130 g and 120 x 50 x 24 mm - are fairly similar to that of the Tanager reference model.
Other features to indicate similarity include tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz support and a 16-bit TFT display. In addition to these, the SPV2 also offers GPRS 4+1, support for MMS and, in a move that will distinguish the SPV2 from its predecessors, J2ME applications.
According to the Orange France web site, the release date for the SPV2 is set to September 1st, which is just shy of three weeks from now. Orange could not be reached for comment.
