Microsoft's smartphone platform has made a surprising debut in China, powering the dopod 515, a handset based on HTC's Canary reference design of Orange SPV fame. To be made available by mobile network operator China Mobile this August, the dopod 515 will be the very first smartphone to feature the most recent version of Microsoft's smartphone platform, of which no particular details were discussed in a Flash demonstration on the web site of the operator.

Some hardware specifications for the dopod 515 were however listed, revealing that the HTC Canary reference design has been given a memory boost and now holds 32 MB of both Flash ROM and RAM. The cause for bolstering on-board memory is believed to be the increased requirements of Smartphone 2003, or Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone as the platform is expected to be named in conjunction with Windows' recent rebranding of this product line.">
