Courtesy of the FCC, pictures and some details of Motorola's new Microsoft-based V700 smartphone have now leaked.
Despite the manufacturer's best efforts to keep its new smartphone under wraps, details of Motorola's new V700 smartphone have now leaked out courtesy of U.S. regulatory organ FCC. To be manufactured by Taiwan-based Chi Mei Communications, the clamshell device will be based on Microsoft's smartphone platform - although whether the final version will be shipping with the current Smartphone 2002 incarnation or Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone is uncertain.

Thus far, only a minimal amount of detail is available concerning the upcoming smartphone, as the only public source of information is its user manual as provided by the FCC web site. A Motorola spokesperson confirmed that the V700 smartphone is indeed under development as an ODM product, however declined to comment on its specifications citing the possibility of features changing prior to launch.
Still, some information can be derived from the manual of the V700, such as it sporting tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, and what appears to be a 16-bit colour display. Also, the clamshell handset features an external monochrome display which functions to notify users of battery level, signal strength and the current time and date, and will also include an SD/MMC memory card slot for expansion purposes - although whether this is SDIO capable is uncertain.
Surprisingly, it appears the V700 will lack support for MMS as the user manual offers no mention of it being supported. However, the V700 will include a feature not present in any currently available devices based on the Smartphone 2002 platform: voice dialing, activated through the also-novel jog dial which provides an additional navigation option to the five-way directional pad of the V700.
Likely to disappoint anticipating advocates of Microsoft's Smartphone platform, it does not appear as if though the V700 will have integrated Bluetooth on its feature list. A frequent complaint among users of currently available devices, the V700 could however theoretically be fitted with a Bluetooth SDIO card, provided its SD/MMC Card expansion slot offers SDIO support.
The V700 will come bundled with a set of earphones featuring remote control capabilities, a USB synchronization cable and a charger.
