Tri-band GSM, GPRS, an integrated camera, J2ME, MMS and a funky new keypad design are just some of the traits of Siemens' new party phone, the MC60.
Siemens today introduced the MC60 at a launch event in Moscow as a "party proof" phone sporting an integrated camera, a colour screen and an unusual look courtesy of its brand new keypad design. As Siemens' first camera phone, the MC60 places a heavy emphasis on picture messaging as it aims to let users capture and send images with only two clicks.

The tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz handset is first slated for introduction in September 2003, with other parts of the world seeing availability later this year. Upon its arrival, it will boast a 12-bit (4,096 colours) screen with a 101 x 80 pixel resolution and capable of displaying 7 lines of text. The screen also doubles as a viewfinder for the built-in digital camera, which is capable of capturing images in four different resolutions - the highest of which is 352 x 288 pixels (0,1 megapixel), also known as CIF.
Other advanced features of the MC60 include its support for J2ME MIDP 1.0, as well as GPRS Class 8 and advanced data capabilities. The handset supports everything from SMS through EMS to MMS, and can both send and receive messages in all three formats. Also, the handset includes a WAP 1.2.1 browser featuring partial support for WAP 2.0 specifications, and 1 MB of storage shared by MMS content, pictures and polyphonic ring tones.
Sporting what with regard to Siemens is a rather unsual, X-shaped keypad, the MC60 also supports exchangeable CLIPit covers, allowing users to personalize the handset. Also aiding users to do so are polyphonic ring tones as well as imaging applications and the option of downloading additional games in addition to those embedded.
Measuring 109 x 46 x 21 mm, the MC60 is not only one of the smallest camera phones on the market, but also a lightweight one at 86 g. Powered by a 700 mAh Lithium Ion battery, Siemens lists the handset as capable of offering up to 300 minutes of talk time and up to 250 hours of standby time.
The MC60 weighs 86g and will be available in Aquamarine, Titanium and Grenadine across Europe from September 2003 and in Asia-Pacific and Latin America at a later stage this year.
