An innovative printing concept from PrintDreams - where users simply sweep a printing device over any surface - could be poised to revolutionize printing on the go.
Sweden-based PrintDreams is set to turn some heads with its new twist on the concept of mobile printing. Based on the company's proprietary Random Movement Printing Technology (RMPT), the company - which aims to license its technology to OEMs - is now showcasing its PrintBrush mobile printer, which lets users print on any print media surface simply by sweeping the printer across it.
The printer has the length of a normal ballpoint pen while its width and height are more or less equivalent to the width of a modern mobile phone. The total volume is less than 300 cc, and its weight a mere 350 grams. Despite the current version having been designed to roughly fit into a shirt pocket, PrintDreams believes there is a potential for size and weight reduction in coming versions.

Internet content, SMS, pictures and other information is downloaded to the PrintBrush from PDAs, mobile phones and laptop computers by means of Bluetooth. Then, by following the RMPT principle, the device is hand operated by sweeping it across any type of print media, regardless of shape, size or thickness. The printout will then start to appear right behind the sweeps.
According to PrintDreams, the device takes into account all thinkable parameters of the hand movement, including rotation and sudden changes of speed and acceleration - with the resulting image being "very much alike" its digital counterpart.
PrintDreams said the company expects OEMs to deliver final products based on the company's technology under their own brand name in early 2005, but did not comment on their expected price.
