Sony Ericsson T226 launchedBy Jørgen Sundgot, Thursday 19 June 2003
Summer is here, and so is Sony Ericsson's new T226 - a lightweight, dual-band GSM 850/1900 MHz phone for the Americas sporting a colour screen and polyphonic ring tones.

Sony Ericsson has now unveiled the latest addition to its line-up of models compatible with American GSM networks: the mid-range T226, which sports a colour scren and dual-band GSM 850/1900 MHz connectivity combined with a modest range of functionality. The compact phone, measuring just 3.9" x 1.7" x 0.75" and weighing only 2.6 ounces, is slated for availability in the third quarter in the Americas.

The T226 makes for a colourful addition to Sony Ericsson's offering in the Americas
Compatible with Sony Ericsson's CommuniCam MCA-25 snap-on camera accessory, users of the T226 will be able to capture, view and send photos, either to the recipient's computer or to a compatible mobile handset via MMS.

With Picture Caller ID as a standard feature of the T226, users see not only the phone number, but also the photo of their callers. Also, when connected to Sony Ericsson's Desk Speaker Stand CSS-20 accesory, the phone can double as a speakerphone. What's more, the T226 also offers a separate speaker dedicated to the playback of polyphonic ring tones, and also lets users record any sound and use it as a ringtone.

Gaming is also in the focus with the T226, which boasts Sony Ericsson's now-standard Mophun gaming engine and a five-way "rocker" joystick to allow for better control when playing mobile games. For purposes of extending the number of games available - though also for pure, old-fashioned browsing, the T226 offers a microbrowser capable of downloading music, games, photos and sound bites.

According to Sony Ericsson, the T226 averages 7.5 hours of talk time and 275 hours of stand-by time, and will be made commercially available in Pacific Blue in the third quarter in the Americas. The CommuniCam MCA-25 camera and the Desk Speaker Stand CSS-20 accessories are sold separately.

An additional hi-res picture of the Sony Ericsson T226 is available on the following page.
