Nokia's new Series 60-based 6600 model is the most advanced product yet to be launched by the company, featuring tri-band GSM, GPRS, HSCSD, Bluetooth, MMC expansion and much more.
Today, Nokia expanded its portfolio of smartphones with the introduction of the Nokia 6600, an imaging handset which is aimed at business users. Joining the Nokia 7650 and 3650 models, the Series 60-based smartphone will offer tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz connectivity, along with a similar of suite of PIM, messaging and browsing applications found in the handset's two predecessors - with some changes.

Launched at the Nokia Press Update event in Helsinki, Finland, in conjunction with an Asia Pacific event held in Singapore themed "Image is Power", the Series 60 based Nokia 6600 is expected to be commercially available during the fourth quarter of 2003 in Europe, Africa, and Asia-Pacific markets.
The Nokia 6600 features an integrated VGA camera for video recording and still image capture with 2x digital zoom, as well as a 16-bit (65,536 colours) display with what according to Nokia is an enhanced graphical user-interface. Users can create, send and receive multi-picture multimedia messages with Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) technology, which allows users to compose messages that display text, sound and images in a pre-determined order.
Also made possible with the Nokia 6600 is capturing, sending and receiving video clips with audio, as well as receive streaming video content in both RealVideo and 3GPP video streaming formats. Streaming can be performed over both HSCSD and GPRS, and the handset also includes support for Bluetooth and infrared for PAN connectivity.
On the software side, the Nokia 6600 will come with the recently launched second edition of the Series 60 platform, which offers several upgrades over the version used in the 7650 and 3650 models. Among other features, users of the Nokia 6600 will be able to install Symbian OS based applications, but also J2ME applications using MIDP 2.0 - the second version of the profile utilised by Java developers when creating applications for mobile devices.
Enterprise users can access e-mail and other corporate servers securely by utilising newfound support for SSL and a mobile VPN (Virtual Private Network) client. Also offered is an XHTML browser, and a wallet application to ease the process of making online payments and storing personal information in an encrypted storage. Applications can be stored either in the smartphone's 6 MB of internal memory or on the 32 MB MMC card included in the sales package.
For the Europe and Africa region, the Nokia 6600 comes in two colors: light grey and rose. The 113 cc phone weighs 122 grams, and according to Nokia offers a talk-time of up to 4 hours and standby up to 10 days.
