Nokia is now launching the 7250i - an updated version of the 7250 featuring several software upgrades - in Europe and the Asia Pacific.
Nokia today introduced the Nokia 7250i handset for the European and Asia Pacific markets, which brings with it several upgrades over its older sibling, the Nokia 7250. Like its predecessor, the new 7250i offers tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz connectivity, an integrated digital camera, FM radio and J2ME support, but in addition boasts more RAM, XHTML support, improved camera functions, enhanced MMS and more.

The new feature list of the Nokia 7250i kicks off with newfound support for XHTML in the browser, which lets the handset access web sites already adapted for other mobile devices. Particularly popular among Pocket PC and Smartphone 2002 users, a multitude of such sites are available - far more so than WAP versions. Inside the browser, users will also find a link to Nokia's new mobile site, which features content optimized for XHTML and lets visitors access ring tones, graphics and game demos.
Memory-wise, the 7250i has also received an upgrade, and similar to the recently launched Nokia 6800 messaging phone now boasts 4 MB of on-board memory. Divided in two parts, 1/2 MB is reserved for phone book entries, SMS, calendar notes, the to-do list and the 7250i's 11 preset ringtones, while 3.5 MB is shared by MMS messages, additional ringtones, pictures and J2ME applications.
An upgrade has also been rendered to the camera software of the 7250i, which now offers a special night mode for taking pictures under poorly lit conditions, digital zoom, contrast adjustment, added functionality for presenting slide shows and an image editor which enables users to add text, frames and clip art images to pictures.
Enhanced MMS is also part of the equation, as the 7250i offers delivery reports for sent messages, advanced group messaging features and scaling of images within the MMS application to reduce size for compliance with network operator requirements.
A brand new feature is one which has already been explored to some degree by several other mobile phone manufacturers, namely portrait image caller ID - more simply put, presenting a picture of a caller whose phone number is stored in the phone book rather than a textual identification.
The Nokia 7250i is expected to begin shipping in Europe and Asia Pacific during June, 2003, while its introduction in the North American market should be "expected soon", according to Nokia.
