A new line of USB chargers from American Power Conversion charges and synchronizes over 25 popular handhelds from Compaq/HP, Palm, Handspring and Sony.
American Power Conversion (APC) has introduced a family of USB cables that provide handheld users with a way of charging and synchronizing handhelds via the USB port on their laptop computer, rather than relying on bulky power adapters and cradles. Over 25 models are initially supported from manufacturers including Compaq/HP, Palm, Handspring and Sony, and the company says more are to be added soon.

The APC USB Handheld Charger and Sync Cables measure 5 feet (1.5 meters) in length and are designed to supply the power needed to charge the battery from a USB port. While the device is charging, users can synchronize data between the handheld and the laptop, from where it draws a five-volt current. According to APC, its cables are compatible with all PC and Mac laptops with a USB port and feature a USB connector on one end and the vendor-specific adapter on the other.
In addition to the new USB Handheld Charger and Sync Cable, APC has also expanded its USB Mobile Phone Charger product offering to include compatibility with several additional mobile phone models. This product provides mobile phone users with the ability to charge brand phones via the USB port.
The APC USB Handheld Charger and Sync Cables are currently available in North America through APC's website, as well as electronic retailers nationwide in the U.S. for handheld models made by Compaq/HP, Palm, Handspring, and Sony with several additional compatible models to come. The USB Handheld Charger and Sync Cable will carry an estimated resale price of $19.99 USD. The APC USB Mobile Phone Chargers are currently available and carry an estimated resale price of $14.99 USD.
