More wireless cards are on the way this summer for Palm OS devices, in both SD and Memory Stick formats. Hagiwara plans to cover all bases... and all access points.
Hagiwara Sys-Con, a Japanese semiconductor manufacturer, has announced plans to develop and release a number of wireless Secure Digital and Memory Stick Palm OS accessories within the coming year.
On the Secure Digital side, Hagiwara plans to release both an SD Bluetooth card and an SD Wireless LAN 802.11b card. The Bluetooth card will be a Class 2 radio, with a maximum range of approximately 10 meters. It will run on the Bluetooth 1.1 specification, as do nearly all Bluetooth devices, and will require Palm OS 4.0 or higher. The Wireless LAN 802.11b card will be a standard 802.11b radio with a range of 37 meters and speed of 11 Mbps, and have a low power consumption of only 20 mAh stand-by. It will support both 40-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption (Wired Equivalent Privacy), and will run on Palm OS 4.0 and higher.

Hagiwara will also produce Memory Stick accessories with almost the same specifications for the Sony CLIE Palm OS handhelds. The major difference is that the Wireless LAN 802.11b Memory Stick will require Palm OS 5.0 or higher rather than Palm OS 4.0. Hagiwara does not specify what the need is for the later OS version.
No prices were listed for any of the four card. Hagiwara expects all four cards to ship sometime in Summer 2003.
