The Sony Ericsson T610 unveiledBy Sindre Lia, Tuesday 4 March 2003
With the new T610, Sony Ericsson adds a new multimedia phone to their mobile phone portfolio, sporting a 65K colour screen, integrated digital camera and software for image sharing.

The triple-band GSM/GPRS T610 sports a 65,536 colour screen as well as an integrated digital camera and Bluetooth connectivity. The user can share pictures between the phone, a PC and other consumer devices - either locally over Bluetooth or cable, or across the mobile phone networks with MMS or e-mail.

The T610 is Sony Ericsson's first conventional mobile phone to feature an integrated digital camera
The T610 is also the first Sony Ericsson product equipped with QuickShare; a new application providing image sharing capabilities. With QuickShare, the highest priority is on making imaging applications very easy to use for consumers. A new user interface with 12 animated icons and rich colours, which also are supposed to further add to the ease-of-use philosophy of QuickShare, has also been implemented in the T610.

Hotlinks in the menus give direct access to services and functions such as downloadable games. The T610 supports the Java and Mophun (C++) platforms for downloadable games, and also offers the possibility of playing games with other people via Bluetooth wireless technology. According to Sony Ericsson, excellent graphics, polyphonic sound, force feedback and a joystick further adds to a great mobile gaming experience.

The T610 also features the Music DJ melody composer, for creating MIDI songs which can be used as ringtones. This application lets the user select pre-recorded musical loops to compose a song, in much the same way as modern artists create music through more advanced systems. With Music DJ, Sony Ericsson hopes to make it easy and fun to create and edit polyphonic ring signals using “blocks” containing ready-mixed drums, bass- lines and melodies.

For the first time, also a Phone Flash accessory will be available for the T610 camera phone, enabling pictures to be taken in dimly lit environments. Used together with the T610, the Phone Flash accessory makes it possible to take good pictures even in poorly lit surroundings, such as a nightclub or bar.

The T610 has a listed standby time up to 13 days (315 hours) and talk time up to 14 hours. It measures 102 x 44 x 19 mm, weighs 95 g and will be available for purchase sometime during Q2 2003.

A GSM 850/1800/1900 model named T616 will be launched for the US market in Q2 2003.
