ClieSource has announced the results of their Clie NX-series CompactFlash Memory Driver Contest. ClieSource was offering a total prize of over $1,700 USD, donated from a variety of sources, to anyone that could develop a driver to allow the Sony CLIE PEG-NX70v and NX60 to use standard storage CompactFlash cards in those devices' CF slots. While the slots are physically and electrically compliant with the CompactFlash specification, Sony has not provided any drivers to allow it to be used with any card other than their own 802.11b WiFi adapter.
Unfortunately, no drivers were submitted to the contest. ClieSource has announced that, as promised, all prize money will be returned to the donors. Whether the lack of drivers was due to a lack of interest or a failure to create a viable driver due to limited documentation is unknown. Either way, it does not bode well for Sony's just-released NZ90, which also has a driver-less CF slot to support a Sony-proprietary WiFi card. CompactFlash is currently the most widely used flash card format in the world, followed by Memory Stick and SmartMedia.">
