Worms World Party ahoyBy Jørgen Sundgot, Wednesday 2 October 2002
Hexacto and Team17 have joined forces to bring smash hit Worms to Palm OS, Pocket PC and Smartphone 2002 platforms; Worms World Party is slated for release later this year.

Despite the existence of one hugely popular Worms clone on the Pocket PC platform - Snails, Hexacto and Team17 seem to think there is enough of an audience for them to port smash hit Worms to not only the Pocket PC, but also Palm OS and Smartphone 2002 platforms. To be available world-wide excluding Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan, the game is slated for launch later this year and is likely to offer Snails and other Worms clones a bit of competition.

As part of the agreement, Hexacto will develop and publish the assorted versions of Worms World Party, with the new versions boasting all the immediacy and gameplay of Team 17's PC versions according to the two companies. As part of the agreement, Hexacto is also looking to bundle the PC version of the Team 17 game with the PDA versions of the game in the United States.

In-game, players control an army of four worms, each of whom are dropped into combat zones against rival worm factions. Using the wide array of weapons at their disposal - including homing missiles, shotguns and air strikes - the aim of the game is to wipe out the opposing teams in a series of 'Last Man Standing' episodes. As in the PC version, strict time limits and differing wind conditions mean that players must use their wit and reflexes to survive.

In related news, Hexacto has also recently inked a deal with Microsoft to bring the popular PC golf game Links to the Pocket PC and Smartphone 2002 platforms.
