PalmSource Powered Up Awards announcedBy Larry Garfield, Monday 30 September 2002
The winners of PalmSource's Powered Up Awards have been announced, including major industry applications and independent developers, from medial software to add-on hardware modules.

As part of its grand opening of its new independent headquarters building last week, PalmSource announced the winners of its Powered Up Awards contest. The awards went to one winner in each of four categories for the most innovative applications in their area.

Best Enterprise Solution and Best Overall Solution went to ePocrates Rx from ePocrates, which provides extensive medical information to physicians on the floor, including drug information and dosing. ePocrates is already used by over half a million medical professionals and medical students.

Best Productivity/Education Solution went to MARGI Systems for their Presenter-To-Go SD card. The hardware/software combo device allows users to put PowerPoint presentations as well as other printable documents onto their SDIO slot-equipped Palm device and output it to any VGA-capable monitor or LCD projector at full 1024x768 resolution.

Best Leisure and Entertainment Solution went to Vindigo 2.0 from Vindigo, an AvantGo-like service that provides users with up-to-date information on entertainment events in their area. Coverage includes concerts, restaurants, stores, bars and clubs, museum events, and so on, and provides maps and directions to various locations, including the location of ATM machines.

Best Student Developer Solution was awarded to high school student An Nguyen for Palm CWebLog. Palm CWebLog is a tracking program for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the primary American and Canadian accrediting authority for medical education programs ending in M.D. degrees. LCME requires that medical students keep a record of their clerkship experiences. Students currently use the online Clinical WebLog to log these experiences. Palm CWebLog allows students to record their information immediately and upload later rather than waiting until they can get to the Clinical WebLog web site.

PalmSource is sponsoring another round of awards as well, to be awarded at the PalmSource 2003 conference. They are now accepting nominations on their web site.
