Another phone targeted for users of Sprint's PCS Vision service, the Sanyo SCP-4900, is now available from Sprint with a 12-bit color screen, WAP 2.0 browser, J2ME support and more.
Sprint isn't resting on in laurels after introducing its Sprint PCS Vision service; new devices are announced continously, and the Sanyo SCP-4900 is the latest. Sporting a 12-bit color screen, hands-free speakerphone, a WAP 2.0 browser and support for J2ME applications, the SCP-4900 rivals some of the most advanced handsets on the market in Europe today.

| The SCP-4900 is a candy-bar style dual-band handset featuring a 1.7-inch, 12-bit (4096-color), half-permeable LCD display and a built-in, hands-free speakerphone. The handset can also act as a portable answering machine, allowing the user to listen in as the caller leaves a message.
Apart from its more notable features, the SCP-4900 also offers quite a laundry list in terms of personalization; photos and ringtones can be assigned to various entries in the address book, the phone comes with eight embedded 16-chord polyphonic ringtone melodies, animations can occur if enabled while placing a call, font sizes can be set to one out of four selections, user-defined folders hold up to 200 messages in up to 10 folders, an enhanced internal phone book stores up to 300 entries with up to nine numbers per entry, and holds up to 500 phone numbers, 300 e-mail addresses and 300 URL entries.
Productivity tools are also included, such as a scheduler/calendar and to-do list with function alarm, One-Touch Wireless Web Access for easy Internet connectivity, One-Touch Voice Memo for up to eight 18-second voice memos or incoming caller messages, Voice-activated Dialing for up to 30 names, Call Screening which acts like an answering machine to allow the user to listen in as the caller leaves a message, Speed Dialing and Call History which keeps a log of the last 20 outgoing, 20 incoming and 20 missed calls.
Recently launched, Sprint's PCS Vision service for its CDMA2000 1xRTT network offers a host of services that Sprint has gathered under name, most of which are supported by the SCP-4900 including polyphonic ringtones, animated screen savers, browsing WAP 2.0 web sites and download and install or other applications through the J2ME support of the phone. Aditionally, the phone supports several messaging services such as web-based PCS Mail, PCS Short Mail, Wireless Chat by Jumbuck and Messaging Fun games by Scan Mobile.
According to Sprint, the SCP-4900 provides a talk time of up to 4.5 hours and standby time of up to 16 days (standard Sanyo Lithium Ion battery/digital mode). The handset measures 4.88 inches high by 1.89 inches wide by .98 inches deep, and weighs 4.6 ounces with its standard 1350 mAh Lithium Ion battery attached. The phone is available now for a suggested retail price of $179.99 USD, and can be purchased at Sprint Stores nationwide and directly from Sprint's website.
