Meet the new Acer n20 and n20w models - the latter of which comes with integrated 802.11b connectivity, while both offer 3.8" TFT LCD displays and Memory Stick expansion (!).
It has only been little more than half a year since Acer pledged its support to the Pocket PC platform, after having previously launched the only Palm OS device beside that of Sony itself to feature a Memory Stick expansion slot. That's something the company obviously took a liking to, and just as well brought out the first Pocket PC product series with Memory Stick expansion support.

Using Intel's PXA250 XScale processor, the new handheld joins a line-up of faster Pocket PCs that are slated to hit the market this summer, such as Fujitsu-Siemens' Pocket LOOX, the Japanese-only Toshiba e550G and Hitachi's NPD-10JWL along with the not yet officially announced Toshiba e740 and Compaq iPAQ H3900 series. Prior to its merger with Compaq, HP also had plans to bring a device called the Jornada 575 WDA to market, using an XScale processor.
Intel's PXA250 processor is able to run at clock speeds of up to 400 MHz, however Acer did not disclose whether their products would be running at that exact clock speed. What however was disclosed, was that the handhelds both would come with 32 MB Flash ROM, 64 MB RAM, a 16-bit 3.8" TFT display, Memory Stick expansion slots and USB connectivity.
Additionally, the handhelds feature what Acer has called the Acer Versatile Connector, as well 6 hardware application buttons, a scroll wheel, hold switch, directional pad and removable, rechargeable Li-ion polymer batteries. There is also one feature that the two models don't have in common, and that's 802.11b wireless connectivity which is built into the n20w model - making it the first non-vertical Pocket PC device from a major manufacturer to sport such capabilities without having to use an expansion module.
The 802.11b wireless functionality also directly affects the capacity of the batteries of the two models; while that of the n20 model is 1000 mAH, the n20w has a 2000 mAH. That, again, affects the thickness of the models - where the n20 is 12.9 mm thick, the n20w adds 6.7 mm, bringing it to 19.6 mm. An optional expansion sleeve will also be available for the n20 model which adds both a Compact Flash and a PCMCIA expansion slot.
Unfortunately, Acer did not make available any details regarding pricing or availability for the n20 series.
