Hollywood has discovered mobile phones in a big way; Men In Black II is the foundation of not one, but four games utilizing SMS, WAP and J2ME to give mobile users a bit of action.
Courtesy of Columbia Pictures and Digital Bridges, the Men In Black will shortly be keeping aliens in check via mobile phones across Europe and Asia. Digital Bridges will offer a range of Men In Black II branded mobile entertainment services including games for all existing mobile technologies (SMS, WAP & Java) as well as downloadable personalization services such as ringtones, icons, logos and voicemail services.
There are currently four games in production, making the mobile line-up for Men in Black II one of the most comprehensive of all the titles that have wandered off the silver screen and onto the more common green, pixelated one.
Men In Black II: Same Planet, Different Scum is a J2ME game which is downloaded and played on the phone itself. In this game, players take control of an MiB agent and patrol the streets of New York, blasting aliens bent on the destruction of the world. The game features locations and aliens from the forthcoming movie.
Men In Black II: Back In Black is an adventure game, which requires potential MiB agents to possess brains as well as brawn. The player must investigate alien activities on Earth and try to discover what new plot is being hatched to destroy the world / enslave mankind / turn us into snacks. According to Digital Bridges, wits and cunning are required if Earth is to be saved. The game can be played on WAP-enabled phone handsets or through any SMS-capable mobile phone.
Two further games, one that allows players to train as a potential Men In Black agent and another that provides useful agency information to prospective Men In Black, or anyone who suspects their friends or family may really be from another planet, are also being created for SMS and WAP-enabled phone handsets. Additionally, WAP players will be able to enjoy the games in full color provided they have a WAP handset with a color display.
