Opera revvs up 9210i web browsingBy Jørgen Sundgot, Monday 15 April 2002
While the web browser in Nokia's 9210 outcompetes those of most other devices on the market, that's obviously not enough for Nokia; in the 9210i, it's Opera that takes users surfing.

Although Nokia's 9210 at its launch came with a pre-installed web browser that surpassed every other browser pre-installed on any mobile device at the time, Nokia decided on not following up on its own efforts with the launch of the updated Nokia 9210i, but instead turned to Norway-based Opera's solution. The result is a fully adapted version of Opera for Symbian that comes pre-installed on the Nokia 9210i, providing web support matched by only one other mobile device - the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500, which runs an adapted version of Opera for Linux.

Ill: Opera

As is clear from the screenshots in this article, the Opera for 9210i web browser is quite capable and can take in just about any website available on the web - particularly thanks to its 640 x 200 pixel resolution display which allows almost-normal breadth viewing of pages. The only difference between the browser adapted specifically for the 9210i and the general Symbian version is that the SSL handling now only support SSL 3.0 and no longer support SSL 2.0 or TLS 1.0.

Ill: Opera

Apart from that it's roughly the same, meaning that the browser offers full HTTP 1.0, 1.1, HTML 4.01, ECMAScript, JavaScript and CSS 1 support, partial CSS 2, XML, XHTML and WML support, and more. Additionally, the Symbian version offers navigating the browser by means of the keyboard only, allows zooming in and out of pages and last, but not least - running Java applets.
