Starcut has teamed up with Universal Studios to provide mobile based content from Universal's entertainment brands to Nokia in the shape of graphics, ring tones and more.
Some Nokia phone owners already have access to selected display graphics, ring tones, text messages (SMS), picture messages, and multimedia messages (MMS) from more than 100 of Universal's film and television titles including The Mummy Returns, The Mummy, The Jurassic Park Trilogy, Back to the Future and Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. along with upcoming access to Universal's vast library of film and television properties.
Others will get access soon, and it's all due to a licensing agreement between Starcut and Universal which allows Starcut to adapt content from Universal's entertainment brands for delivery on Nokia phones. The service has already launched in several European countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Finland, while rollout to other European and Asia Pacific countries will happen in the 1st quarter of 2002. After that, the U.S. is next, and Nokia promises the service to be available there before 2003.
The mobile content related to the titles will be available to Nokia phone owners through Club Nokia, Nokia's on-line community and loyalty program for Nokia phone owners, and includes display graphics, MMS still pictures, audio effects, and mobile games. Today, Club Nokia offers exclusive services to owners of Nokia mobile phones in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific, where owners can access the Club Nokia web and WAP services once their Nokia phone is registered with Club Nokia. Nokia also said its Club Nokia services will become available to Nokia phone owners globally in the near future.
Kevin Campbell, senior vice president, New Media Marketing, Universal Pictures, said, "We will be working very closely with Starcut and Nokia to strategically introduce new mobile content to consumers as a key component of our marketing plans for upcoming films. The mobile marketplace is becoming an increasingly important part of our overall marketing strategy and this multi-year partnership gives us tremendous reach in the wireless world."
