AT&T recently introduced tiered data plans, making the network a lot more attractive to smartphones that aren't necessarily made for high-end browsing alone. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz will be available from AT&T on September 5. It'll cost $180 with a new two-year contract. A $50 mail-in rebate will be given when signing up for a qualifying plan.
Sony Ericsson Vivaz is a Symbian^2 smartphone
Since Symbian^3 was announced to be functionality complete only a few days ago, we assume the Sony Ericsson Vivaz for AT&T will be powered by Symbian^2 (a bridge version between S60 5th Edition and Symbian^3). It's worth noting that there never was an official Symbian^2 release, due to the high development speed of Symbian right now, but it's in use on several Sony Ericsson and Nokia smartphones in Europe, including the Vivaz.
The Sony Ericsson Vivaz sports a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen with a 360 by 640 pixels resolution (nHD). There's also an 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording and LED flash, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a 720MHz processor with an integrated PowerVR GPU. Other features include Microsoft ActiveSync Exchange, OpenGL ES 2.0 for 3D gaming, and an accelerometer.
Social networking widgets made in Flash Lite 3 should also be accessible from the phone's home screen. Additionally, the ATT.NET mobile browser based on Opera Mini takes advantage of Opera's compression technology, and we assume it'll be pre-loaded on the Sony Ericsson Vivaz for AT&T.
