3D hits the living room! We took a look at Samsung's latest 3D LED TVs and technology. Watch the video here.
Grabbing your date for a 3D movie used to be a thrilling event back in the day, but Samsung has migrated that nostalgia into the home with the addition of the first ever 3D LED TVs. Those cheesy paper glasses with blue and red plastic film lenses have been replaced by a pair of active matrix shutter glasses, which look like they were borrowed from the set of "The Matrix." No more lines to wait on or overpriced popcorn to douse with chemical butter--just a simple flip of a Blu-ray disc in a 3D-compatible player that is connected to one of the company's three 3D LED TVs, and the night is on.
The Samsung UNC7000, Samsung UNC8000, and pencil-thin Samsung UNC9000 were announced at CES earlier this year, but we got a chance to see them up close and personal, complete with 3D demos. We're going to have to tell you that Samsung means business, and the new 3D LED screens offered such a realistic display, that we were fearing for our lives when a meteor was barreling straight for us, seemingly off the screen and in our faces.
Samsung also demonstrated their built-in App Store, which was like an Apple TV that actually got it right. Rather than heading to the computer to skype with that Lithuanian girl from last summer, you could do it all from your living room. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, Blockbuster, Netflix, and a good amount of additional applications were showcased today, and all of them performed on the LEDs without a hitch.
Price and availability
The new Samsung 3D LED TV series will cost between $2000 and $7000, and the various sets will begin selling in April and May 2010.
