iPhone apps already offer video chat functionality, and now it seems like the next iPhone will offer a front-faced Web camera.
FSMdotCOM reports that a leak by O2 suggests the next iPhone will get a front-faced Web camera. For the time being, iPhone apps providing video chat functionality can primarily be used for one-way video chats. It turns out that O2 plans to charge iPhone users the same for video calls as for voice calls though, meaning that Apple likely plans to offer an integrated solution for video calling.
Earlier leaks also suggest that the next iPhone will be running iPhone OS 4.0, which among other things is supposed to offer a "few new ways" to run applications in the background and improve navigation throughout the OS.
Furthermore, analysts have predicted that the next iPhone will offer a lower total cost of ownership (TCO). With companies like HTC bringing new next-generation Android phones to market this year, there's no doubt that Apple's lucrative carrier agreements will soon be under heavy pressure (or probably already have been for a while).
