Microsoft sheds light on how Windows Mobile 6.x will fit into the picture when Windows Phone 7 phones hit store shelves.
APCMag reports that Windows Phone 7 Series will be for new smartphones that meet certain requirements only. Given the nature of Microsoft's new mobile OS, it makes sense to not let current Windows Mobile smartphones be eligible for an upgrade.
With approximately 15 million WinMo smartphones being sold in 2009, Microsoft doesn't plan to discontinue Windows Mobile 6.x though. According to Microsoft, it'll be re-branded as Windows Phone Classic and targeted towards messaging and business users.
Microsoft announced Windows Mobile 6.5.3 earlier this year, and Microsoft says that this version will use magnifier technology to make it possible for users to control apps that were developed for stylus usage with their finger.
