Google Mobile recently made available Google Earth for Android, the fastest mobile version of Google Earth yet and optimized for WVGA displays. According to Google, the Nexus One with its 1GHz processor, advanced 3D graphics and Android 2.1, has been put through its paces, drawing complex scenes of 3D imagery, terrain, roads and other layers. Google Earth for Android is now available for Nexus One owners, while Motorola Droid owners will get it as soon as Motorola rolls out the Android 2.1 upgrade.
With the release of Google Earth for Android, Google is also introducing the Roads layer, a very popular feature of the desktop version of Google Earth. This layer will give users a better sense of where they are with road labels drawn on top of the satellite imagery. The new app also uses the integrated voice recognition capabilities of the Android platform, and brings together Google Search by voice and Google Local Search to make it easier for users to navigate and find whatever they're looking for.
