We looked a the Fujifilm Finepix HS10, Finepix S2550HD, Finepix F80EXR, and Finepix Z700EXR at PMA 2010. Check out our hands-on video and first impressions.
Fujifilm was the only company this year to light the fuse and blast out an army of new models just in time for PMA—13 to be exact. Half of these models were variations of simplified point-and-shoot compacts, but Fujifilm's new performance models really fired up our Bunsen burners. We selected our favorite performance compacts, featured in our Fujifilm tour video, so check out what we discovered.
Fujifilm Finepix HS10
Fujifilm's new flagship Super Zoom compact barreled at us with a 24mm wide 30x optical zoom lens, a first in the fixed lens Fujinon world. We also loved the 1920x1080 Full HD video recording mode and 1,000fps high-speed capability. Like many of the new releases, the Fujifilm Finepix HS10 has a 10-megapixel sensor capable of capturing up to 10fps at full resolution. We liked the fold-out LCD and added control dial on top, but the most intriguing feature on the new Finepix HS10 had to have been the Motion Remover, which is designed to purge annoying tourists that encroach in your frame. Does it work? Well, it took five tries, and it only removed half of the person, leaving their legs in the bottom of the frame. Sure, there are some gimmicky features on the new Fujifilm Finepix HS10, but we can't wait to test the 1080p video, high-speed video, and image quality. The Fujifilm Finepix is set to ship this April for $500.
Fujifilm Finepix S2550HD
At half the price of the Finepix HS10, there's the Fujifilm Finepix S2550HD, a lightweight fixed lens compact with a 24mm wide 18x optical zoom lens, 12-megapixel sensor, and ISO 6400 sensitivity (though only at 3-megapixels). The Fujifilm Finepix S2550HD offers 720p HD video recording and a slew of beginner-friendly shooting modes, including 6 Scene SR Auto and Face, Smile, and Blink detection, and several Scene modes. Basically, this is a versatile 18x optical zoom for $250, which will be very appealing to buyers who aren't aiming to be the next Ansel Adams. The Fujifilm Finepix S2550HD will ship in March.
Fujifilm Finepix F80EXR
The Fujifilm Finepix F200EXR was one of our tops picks last year, thanks to its stellar image quality, but remember its peculiar pillow shape and soporific color choice? The tides of time have washed ashore the new Fujifilm Finepix F80EXR, featuring a sleek, glossy black body and lighting quick menu navigation. Let's not discount the Finepix F80EXR's 10x optical zoom, 12-megapixel Super CCD EXR sensor, and Film Simulation modes. Our eyes are set on the Fujifilm Finepix F80EXR's image quality, and if it can match our EXR experiences of the past, then we'll probably have another winner on our hands. The Fujifilm Finepix F80EXR has a ship date of March and will retail for $300.
Fujifilm Finepix Z700EXR
Fujifilm's first dive into the touchscreen wading pool was more like a cannonball, as the new Fujifilm Finepix Z700EXR impressed us with a sexy design and highly responsive menu navigation. Usually when we deal with a fully touch-screen compact, image quality takes a nosedive, but the Finepix Z700EXR has a 12-megapixel EXR sensor and plenty of advanced shooting modes. With a 5x optical zoom, 3.5-inch LCD, and dual direction GUI (Auto Rotate) in Playback mode, the Fujifilm Finepix Z700EXR looks like it will be a hot seller. The Fujifilm Finepix Z700EXR will ship this April for $280.
