We got down and dirty with Sony's new Cyber-shot DSC-TX5. Check out our video of the sexy new rugged compact here.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 specifications
We finally got a chance to play around with the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5, but it was difficult to believe that the thing was waterproof, or even capable of surviving a semi-violent sneeze. After all, the Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 looked just like its sleek Cyber-shot ancestors of yesteryear—no notable rubber gaskets or chunky Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 type architecture. Sony finally upped the ante in their menu department, and the Cyber-shot DSC-TX5's navigation and touch-screen response was greatly improved.
The 10.2-megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, 3-inch wide LCD, 4x optical zoom, and 10fps continuous shooting at 10-megapixels were signs that the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 was not here to lollygag in the quality department. The camera had balls as well, rocking a waterproof up to 10 feet, dustproof, shockproof from 5 feet, and 14F freezeproof design. Sony has finally brought style to the rugged camera market, and the Cyber-shot DSC-TX5's addition of 720p HD video did not surprise us, as that resolution has now become an industry-wide standard.
Some of our favorite highlights included the Cyber-shot DSC-TX5's 25mm wide-angle lens, ISO 3200 capability, and plethora of shooting modes and options. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is set to ship this April for $350.
