Samsung pulled a Cinderella story this year with four new exciting models. Watch our exclusive video of the new Samsung TL500, Samsung TL350, Samsung SL605, and Samsung AQ100.
We weren't sure what to expect from Samsung at PMA this year, but the company pulled out a few wild cards and shot up the competition with an answer to Canon's PowerShot G11 and Casio's high-speed fleet. We also saw a rugged camera, designed to take a beating, and an underwater shooter with HD video. Few manufacturers provided such an eclectic array of genres, and we were highly impressed with Samsung's outside-the-box approach.
Samsung TL500
Aimed at Canon's PowerShot G11, the 10-megapixel Samsung TL500 wowed us with its 24mm wide-angle F/1.8 lens and high-performance 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor. We weren't as jazzed about the stunted 3x optical zoom, but the swiveling 3-inch AMOLED LCD made us forget about the camera's inability to magnify. The Samsung TL500 features a swanky new menu system with highly responsive action and is capable of Aperture, Shutter, and full Manual shooting modes. With RAW support and Dual Image Stabilization, the Canon G11 should have some fierce competition this year. The Samsung TL500 will ship this Spring for $450.
Samsung TL350
The retro gauges are back, but this improvement on the Samsung SL320 rocks a high-speed CMOS sensor, capable of 1,000 fps video recording. Yes folks, the Samsung TL350 also shoots 1080p video with HDMI output, is capable of 10fps continuous shooting at 10-megapixels, and has a 24mm wide-angle Schneider lens. With a 5x optical zoom, 3-inch VGA AMOLED LCD, RAW support, and full manual controls, very few models can stop the Samsung TL350 in this class. The Samsung TL350 ships this Spring for $350.
Samsung SL605
Simple and unassuming from the outside, the Samsung SL605 is built to take a moderate licking with its anti-scratch mask, metal façade, and dustproof button pad. This 12-megapixel compact has a 5x optical zoom, 27mm wide-angle lens, and 2.7-inch LCD. Other features include Dual Image Stabilization, Smart Night mode, and Smart Auto. We're not exactly sure how well the Samsung SL605 will fare against the tortures we have planned for it, but we'll let you know when we get our hands on a review unit. The Samsung SL605 will ship this Spring for $130.
Samsung AQ100
It's slim, it's red, and it's waterproof up to 10 feet. The new 12-megapixel Samsung AQ100 shoots 720p HD video and features a distinct Aqua shooting mode for underwater adventures. We get a 5x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD, and Image Stabilization for video. The Samsung AQ100 has a bounty of beginner shooting modes and manages to retain its sexy waistline under the sea. The Samsung AQ100 will ship this Spring for $200.
