A very interesting poll reveals what kind of MeeGo devices people are most excited about. The results give interesting clues about the future in mobile.
Nokia and Intel recently announced the upcoming release of MeeGo, an operating system that merges Maemo and Moblin as well as adding the Qt application framework. Since MeeGo will be capable of running on a range of device types, Nokia Conversations has asked readers what kind of MeeGo devices they're most excited about.
At the time of writing, MeeGo-powered Media phones and Mobile computers have received 29% of the votes each. 19% are most excited about Tablets though, readers that are likely inspired by the recently announced Apple iPad.
Netbooks and Connected TVs have received 9% and 6% of the votes, respectively. 5% of the readers are most interested in seeing MeeGo on in-car entertainment systems, while the last 3% want to see the new operating system in other types of devices.
The most interesting result here is obviously that 19% of the readers want to see MeeGo powering tablets first. We recently said that we believed the space between smartphones and netbooks would gain quite some attention in the next few years with the introduction of the Apple iPad, and it looks like it's having a significant impact already before it has been released.
It's also interesting to see that close to 1/3 of the readers are most excited about seeing MeeGo powering mobile computers. If Nokia listens to its fans, it looks like they've got to release both tablets and mobile computers down the road to avoid dissatisfying approximately half of them. And we all know where most of them would be heading, if Nokia doesn't meet the demand.
