The new Motorola BackFlip on AT&T will be powered by Android and MOTOBLUR, as well as offering a new BACKTRACK touch panel.
AT&T earlier this year promised to release a slew of Android smartphones in 2010. The Motorola BackFlip is the first of the kind to be officially unveiled, featuring a unique form-factor with an original reverse flip design, QWERTY keypad and BACKTRACK touch panel.
MOTOBLUR with BACKTRACK comes to AT&T
The key aspect of Motorola's BackFlip is the MOTOBLUR interface, which synchronizes contacts, posts, messages, photos and more from sources such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Gmail, Picasa, work and personal e-mail, and Last.fm - everything to be delivered through Widgets on the home screen. AT&T also points out that the Motorola BackFlip will be an option for those who prefer multi-tasking, offering the advantage of talking and surfing the Web and accessing applications at the same time.
MOTOBLUR also makes it possible for users to find lost devices from a secure personal information portal and GPS can be used to locate them. One user name and password will bring back a user's contacts, messages and connectivity to previously configured networks and email providers.
The Motorola BackFlip is also the first Motorola device to feature the new BACKTRACK feature, giving users the ability to navigate quickly through Web sites, menus and more with a touch panel located behind the screen when the device is folded open. BACKTRACK offers a new way to scroll through the Web, texts, e-mails and news feeds without obscuring the the home screen. Additionally, to access multimedia capabilities such as listening to music, watch videos and view pictures, the keyboard is flipped backwards into table-top mode. The Motorola BackFlip can also be used as a digital, bedside alarm clock in this mode.
Motorola BackFlip specifications
The Motorola BackFlip sports a 3.1-inch HVGA touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack. Motorola claims a talk time of up to 6 hours, and the BackFlip will be powered by Android 1.5 (upgradeable to Android 2.1). There's also a 2GB microSD memory card out-of-box, and the memory slot supports up to 32GB cards. Check out more Motorola BackFlip specifications.
